“Fuck your face” -Peaches

No Lube So Rude is the newest album from proto electro-clash queen Peaches. Together with NYC diva-core standouts Model/Actriz, together they planned a raunchy takeover of the cavernous halls of the warehouse turned super-venue known as The Knockdown Center. It was a night full of music to get knocked up or otherwise fornicate to. Here’s what we recall:
We crawled into the venue hearing the distant muffled thumping of what we recognized to be the rhythm of Model/Actriz’s Cinderella, the lead single from their 2025 album Pirouette. This was not good news because it was 8:30 and we could only imagine they’d be playing that banger at the beginning or end of their set. After an eternity in the security line stuck behind a group of women who all brought fucking backpacks???, we rushed into the main room just in time to see the members of Model/Actriz take a bow in the thick haze of noise and feedback that signals *this is over now* and then promptly exit stage left. Wow. This clip attached is from their September show at Brooklyn’s Warsaw, a 2025 highlight that we did not bungle like we did last night.
When the clock struck 9:00, Peaches strutted onto a nearly naked stage with two backup dancers and launched immediately into Hanging Titties, the lead track from new album No Lube So Rude. Then Rub from 2015’s Rub, then a dive even further back into her discography with I U She from 2003’s Fatherfucker. Throughout the constant rumbling and humping of the earthquake bass, we were struck by how minimal the music was at most times. Every raunchy lyric was perfectly legible, as if it was being whispered in our ear. As the set marched on, Peaches lost more and more clothing, adding a literal naked element to the performance. We have the feeling that was the whole point, though. Without the fluff of overly distracting lights, stage props, or a backing band, the rawness and singularity of Peaches the performer took center stage.
There was a lot of good music happening in New York City this night, we wanted to be in five places at once. We chose to get dressed down with Peaches and it’s a decision we don’t regret. We DO regret missing all of Model/Actriz’s set, but c’est la vie. We’re looking forward to New Colossus Festival which kicks off Tuesday and will party on all the way through Sunday showcasing over 100 acts from all over the world at a village of venues sprawled across the lower east side. Check out the schedule if you're in the area! See you around, Rrrat Pack.
